Patriots Sweep Lions

Phoenixville, PA – The Patriot's Volleyball team faced off against the Lions of Penn State Schuylkill on Wednesday evening.  Valley Forge swept the Lions in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-10 and 25-21.

The first set could have went either way as neither team was able to pull away until late.  After a Lion service error, Mariah Straker crushed a kill on the following point that seemed to ignite the Patriots.  UVF went on an 8-0 run to open up a 24-16 lead.  After another PSU Schuylkill service error, the Patriots closed out the set by a score of 25-19.

12 kills plus 4 service aces and a lot of Penn State Schuylkill miscues led to a 25-10 second set win.  Hannah Hawkryluk had 3 aces in the set while Mariah Straker, Megan Freed, Kaitlyn Hess, and Lindsay LeSueur accounted for the UVF kills.  The Patriots used runs of 5-0, 3-0, and 12-0 to cruise to a game 2 win.

Set #3 was close midway through.  Junior setter, Kaitlyn Hess set up Mariah Straker with another perfectly placed ball.  Straker rose up and blasted a kill to tie the game at 14.  The Patriots went on a 7-2 scoring run to make the score 22-17.  After both teams traded points and with the Patriots leading 24-21, Lindsay LeSueur put an exclamation mark on the match.  LeSueur received another great set from Kaitlyn Hess who assisted for the 22nd time in the match.  Lindsay LeSueur converted on the kill to give the Patriots their 25th and final point of the night.  UVF beat Penn State Schuylkill in straight sets on Wednesday evening.
