Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Men's Basketball team defeated the Bobcats of Pitt-Greensburg 79-73 on Wednesday evening at home.
The Patriots (3-11) were led offensively by senior guard
Alex Sanchez. Sanchez scored 28 of his 35 points in the second half. Sophomore forward
Arthur Wilborn poured in 15 points for UVF.
The Bobcats (6-12) were led on offense by Cam Seigfried with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Kyle Bondi added 21 points and 5 rebounds.
The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead after back to back jumpers by Cam Seigfried and Kyle Bondi. A pair of free throws from Jay Grubb gave Pitt-Greensburg a six-point edge. UVF trailed for a better part of the first half until
Arthur Wilborn drilled consecutive three's that would tie the game at 14. Back and forth play continued until the Patriots were able to open up a 5-point lead thanks to a 6-0 run with 6 minutes remaining in the half. The Patriots were able to hold onto a 6-point advantage after
Arthur Wilborn laid the ball up and in as time expired. The Patriots led 37-31 after one period.
Leading by 4 with 14 minutes remaining and the game still very much in doubt, the Patriots began to pull away. Back to back layups by
Alex Sanchez and 7 more consecutive Valley Forge points turned into an 11-0 run and gave the Patriots their biggest lead of the evening 61-48. After the Bobcats were able to chip away at the Valley Forge lead and only 5 with a minute and a half left on the clock,
Alex Sanchez pull the nail in the coffin. Sanchez buried a triple from deep to push the UVF lead to 8. Sanchez would later knock down 3 of 4 free throws to put the game away and give the Patriots their 3
rd win of the season 79-73 (3-11).
