Phoenixville, PA – The University of Valley Forge Women's Basketball team played host to the Cougars of Medgar Evers College on Friday evening. The Patriots used a monster 31 point first quarter to run away with a convincing 87-40 win.
It was all Patriots from the start.
Bailey Mayforth opened the game by knocking down a jumper and along with two triples from Amaya Brown, UVF started the game on a 14-2 run. Valley Forge led by as many as 20 in the first quarter. After 1 period of play, the Patriots led Medgar Evers by a score of 31-12.
Valley Forge continued to pour it on in the 2
nd quarter. The trio of Amaya Brown, Natalie Cortes, and
Bailey Mayforth were responsible for 21 of the Patriots 23 second quarter points. Balanced offense plus suffocating defense led to a 33-point halftime lead of 54-21.
The Patriots never led up and scored at will in the second half. UVF went on to cruise to an 87-40 win on Friday evening. With the win, the Patriots improve to 5-6 on the year.
A Look at the Numbers
Tonight, the Patriot defense was unrelenting. UVF only allowed 40 total points and forced the Cougars to just 24% shooting from the field. The Patriots had 22 steals and forced an incredible 36 Cougar turnovers.
Offensively, four Patriots scored in double figures: Natalie Cortes (20), Amaya Brown (17),
Bailey Mayforth (17), and
Jhanel Brown (12).
