Mont Alto, PA – The University of Valley Forge Women's Basketball team improved to 6-6 overall with an 84-70 win over Penn State Mont Alto on Tuesday evening.
The Patriots (6-6) were led by Senior Guard
Bailey Mayforth who had a season high 30 points. Mayforth was 11-22 from the field including going a red hot 7-14 from behind the arc. Sophomore guard Carlie Conrad added 19 points along with 4 assists.
The Lions (4-11) were led offensively by Charity Miller. Miller had 17 points and 9 rebounds.
The first quarter saw Mont Alto jump out to a 9-2 lead in the opening minutes. UVF closed the gap on the scoreboard thanks to a 9-2 run.
Bailey Mayforth scored all 9 of the Patriots points over that span to bring Valley Forge to within 4 heading into the second period 22-18.
UVF would grab their first lead of the evening with just under 4 minutes to play in the period. Baily Mayforth scored back to back buckets to give the Patriots a 34-30 lead. The Lions then used a 6-0 run to retake the lead 36-34. In the closing second of the period
Carlee Conrad was fouled and sent to the free throw line. Conrad converted both free throws to tie the game at 36 heading into the break.
The third period was the difference. UVF quickly took the lead thanks to layups by
Carlee Conrad and
Taniyah Faison. The Patriots would not relinquish the lead and take complete command of the game. Up by 6 (53-47), UVF went on a 9-0 run to open up a 13-point advantage and continued to pour it on. After the end of the 3
rd quarter the Patriot led the Lions by a score of 70-55.
PSU Mont Alto opened the 4
th and final period with a 7-0 run that cut the Patriots lead down to 8. That would be as close as the Lions would get.
Bailey Mayforth put the game out of reach with her 7
th three pointer. The Patriots closed out the Lions and evened up their record (6-6) by a final score of 84-70.
