Box Score Phoenixville, PA - Moments are the best part of sports. Amazing moments can be defined as a single breathtaking play or even an entire unbelievable game. Some moments may even remain etched in our minds for decades. Let's take a look at the top 5 moments from UVF Athletes during the 2016-2017 season.
Sitting at #4 in our top 5 most memorable moments from 2016-2017 is the Men's Baseball win over Clarks Summit University on March 9th. The Patriots entered the game with an 0-8 record while Clarks Summit came in with a 1-7 record. UVF's record wasn't a reflection of how much the team had improved. On several different occasions the Patriots nearly broke through for their first win of the season.
Playing under the lights at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina against the Defenders, proved once again that in the game of baseball, the game is never over until the final out. Valley Forge held a 6-1 lead after the top of the 4
th inning. A scrappy Defender team clawed their way back to tie the game. With the score knotted at 9 going into the top of the 7
th inning, the Patriots were determined to earn their first win of the season.
In the top of the 7
th inning, and 1 out, UVF had back to back singles from
Jacob Johnson and
James Jackson.
Cody Rak then doubled deep down the right field line to score Johnson and Jackson.
Landyn Traffas would triple to scored Rak.
With Traffas standing on 3
rd, he looked at Coach Algeo and said "what do you think?" Being on the same page, Coach Algeo gave him a head nod. Traffas broke for home when the Clarks Summit pitcher went into his wind up. In one of the most exciting plays of the game , Traffas stole home to give the Patriots a 4-run inning to take a 13-9 lead.
Cody Rak shutdown the Defender offense in the bottom of the 7
th inning to secure the Patriots first win of the season.
Congratulations to the Patriots Baseball team on being recognized as one of UVF's Top 5 Moments from 2016-2017.
