PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The Patriots hosted Penn State Brandywine Monday night, for a 7PM match up. Both teams came in with strong records, the Patriots 10-8 and the Nittany Lions 12-8. After a solid first half, again, foul trouble would be the Patriots achilles, as they would fall 88-75 losing their 2
nd straight game.
The Nittany Lions jumped out early, taking a 6 point lead just 2 minutes into the game. The Patriots would hang in and eventually take their first lead with 3:03 left as
Jhanel Brown got a put back for 2 of her 12 1
st quarter points. A high scoring 1
st left the Patriots on top 29-28.
In the 2
nd Bailey Mayforth would score 7 points helping the Patriots stay in the game while two players,
Mikala Brinson and
Jhanel Brown sat with foul trouble. At the half we were all knotted up 43-43.
Coming out at half time, the Nittany Lions pulled out to a 9 point lead with 6:28 left on the clock. At 3:14
Bailey Mayforth's 3 pointer put the game to within 1. The Nittany Lions came right back, taking an 8 point lead into the 4
th, 66-58.
The closest the Patriots would get in the 4
th quarter was 6, when
Jhanel Brown made the basket and connected on her free throw to make it 76-70. But the huge depth of Nittany Lions bench and the foul trouble of the Patriots seemed to be too much to overcome as they fell 88-75.
Jhanel Brown recorded yet another double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds.
Bailey Mayforth scored 18 points and had 8 rebounds.
The Nittany Lions had 10 different players score. They were led by Cashae Hinton who had 22.
With the loss, the Patriots fall to 10-9 on the season. They are back in action on Thursday, February 11
th, when they travel to Langhorne, PA to take on Cairn University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00PM.
