LANGHORNE, PA- Coming off of two consecutive losses, the Patriots traveled to face the Highlanders of Cairn University Thursday night. A strong team defensive effort limited the Highlanders to only 40 points, and earned the Patriots a 54-40 victory.
In the 1
st quarter, the Patriots led by as many as 7 at 3:47 when
Mikala Brinson hit a 3-pointer. A series of missed shots, and a turnover, let the Highlanders right back in, as the quarter would end with UVF up 10-8.
Again, the 2
nd quarter was another low scoring affair. Cairn tied the game twice, but the Patriots never lost the lead. They led by as many as 5. At the half the score was 24-19 in favor of the Patriots.
The 3
rd quarter followed suit with the rest of the game. Every time the Patriots would extend their lead, the Highlanders would hang right in there.
Jhanel Brown's lay-up with 3:24 on the clock game them the 6 point lead. They would maintain that 6 point lead with 1:37 to go with a
Lindsay LeSueur lay-up. Cairn did not go away as they hit a 3 pointer with 30 seconds to go for the final points of the quarter. After 3, it was UVF 39 Cairn 36.
Moving to the 4
th, the Patriots would begin to pull away.
Jhanel Brown scored 12 of her points in the quarter alone. The Patriots defense would hold the Highlanders to only 4 points. UVF goes on to the 14 point win, 54-40.

Gretchen LeVan said,
"Mikala held their best shooter to 5. It was a defensive win for us. We played outstanding!"With the win, the Patriots improve to 11-9 on the season.
Jhanel Brown had her 15
th double-double in 20 games this season scoring 28 points, and bringing in 18 rebounds.
Mikala Brinson scored 15 points, and
Lindsay LeSueur had 8 points.
The Patriots are back in action Saturday, February 13
th, as they travel to Davis College in Johnson City, NY. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00PM.
