LANGHORNE, PA- The Patriots traveled to Cairn University Monday night to face the 6-8 Highlanders. Despite a back and forth game, the Highlanders would come out on top 81-72.
In the 1
st half,
Devin Williams opened up the scoring with a 3 pointer 20 seconds into the game. At 14:24 the game would be tied at 13. Then the Patriots would go on a 9-0 run to take the 22-13 lead with 12:57 left in the first. The Highlanders would again fight back, tying the game at 36 with 6:22 on the clock. The Highlanders would take the lead with 5:39 left, but the Patriots stood with them. Cairn went in at the half leading by only 1, 46-45.
In the 2
nd half, the Highlanders would extend their lead. They would lead by as many as 10 with 8:42 left in the game. The Patriots would cut that lead to 1 at the 5:53 mark on a 3 by
Devin Williams, and then again at 5:26, this time on a lay-up by Williams. At 4:34 the Patriots would take the lead on a lay-up by
Thorne McIntosh giving them the 71-70 lead. Â The lead would go away quickly, as few costly turnovers down the stretch would let the Highlanders pull away. They would go on to win 81-72.
With the loss, the Patriots drop to 2-12 on the season.
Thorne McIntosh led all Patriot scorers with 15.
Devin Williams and
Jerome Staley each had 14.
For the Highlanders, they improve to 7-8 on the season. JD Zamroz led all scorers with 20. He had 17 of the 20 in the 1
st half.
The Patriots return to action on Friday, January 22, as they host Penn State Brandywine (4-11). Â Tip-off is set for 7:00PM.
