2nd Half Surge Lifts Patriots

PHOENIXVILLE, PA- Playing a day game after a night game win, the Patriots took on the Tigers of Trinity Washington University Saturday afternoon. After a slow start, the Patriots would come out on top 51-44.

In the 1st quarter, both teams struggled to put the ball in the net, as the score was only 6-6. The 2nd quarter was even worse for the Patriots as they managed only 4 points and luckily only went in at the half down 8, 18-10.

The Patriots would turn it around to start the 3rd quarter. After a Tigers jumper to go up by 10, Mikala Brinson would hit a three at the other end to cut the lead to 7. Brinson wasn't done, as she then would steal the ball and take it in for the easy lay-up making it a 5 point game. Solid Patriots defense continued, and two straight lay-ups by Jhanel Brown brought the Patriots within 1. With 1 minute left in the quarter, the drove the lane and made the lay-up tying the game at 27. She was fouled on the play, and would complete the 3 point play as she made her free-throw giving the Patriots the lead. The Tigers would not go away, and took a 2 point lead heading to the 4th quarter 30-28.

In the 4th, the Patriots would take the lead at 7:22 by another 3 pointer from Mikala Brinson, and they would not look back.  Jhanel Brown heated up, scoring 12 of her 20 points in the quarter.

With the win, the Patriots improve to 5-6. Jhanel Brown recorded a double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Mikala Brinson finished with 16.

For the Tigers, Blessing Hayes led with 15 points. India Richey had an impressive 24 rebounds in the loss. They drop to 4-6 on the year.

The Patriots next game will be Tuesday, January 19th, as they host Lancaster Bible College. Tip-off is set for 7:00PM.
