Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Patriots Comeback Falls Short in Weekend Tournament

BRYN ATHYN - Playing in back-to-back games over the weekend, the University of Valley Forge Men's Soccer dropped both by finals scores of 4-3 and 5-0.

In game one they trailed Cairn University 4-0 through the first 60 minutes, but a strong rally brought them back to within one, 4-3.  However, they were unable to get the equalizer in the final minutes and the Highlanders held on for the victory.

Cairn opened the scoring in 5th minute with a goal from Kenneth Mercandante.  They continued their strong first half push with goals in the 21st and 31st minute and put the Patriots in a tough place to comeback.  Trailing 4-0 in the 75th minute, the Patriots got on the board with a goal from Kevin Carbajal.  Two minutes later Carbajal tallied another to cut the lead in half.  With momentum on their side, the Patriots kept pushing and Cairn was feeling the pressure.  They picked up two yellow cards in the final minutes and the Patriots were geting more opportunities.  In the final minutes the Patriots had a great opportunity, but a shot from Brandon Nyekan went wide and Cairn held on for the win.

In the second game of the weekend against Hunter College, the Patriots gave up and early penalty kick and again fell behind early.  Falling behind early has been a common them so far throughout the young season.  Hunter contintued the first half push with two more goals and led 3-0 at the break.  This time the Patriots were not able to mount any kind of comeback and they lost by a final score of 5-0.

Up next for the Patriots is a home match against Emory and Henry College on Friday, September 11th at 4PM!
