Comeback Falls Shorts: Lions Take Down Patriots

HARRISBURG, PA – The University of Valley Forge Women's Volleyball Team traveled to Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday evening to take on the Lions.  After dropping the first two sets, the Patriots battled back to take the third set, but were unable to continue the momentum as they fell to the Lions 1-3 (15-25, 12-25, 25-22, 7-25).

The Lions' Madison Chace and Melissa Orlandini provided a potent 1-2 punch for the host school.  The duo racked up 31 kills in the contest and also combined for 6 aces.  Orlandini also had a team-high 12 digs.

For the Patriots, freshman Lindsay LeSueur had one of her highest outputs of the season with a team-high 8 kills and 2 blocks.  Returning to her normal libero position, Brittany Eberly had 27 digs for the Patriots.

In the first set, the Lions used two 7-0 scoring runs to keep that Patriots at bay.  It was much of the same in the second set as the host school had all the momentum it needed to go up two sets.  Trailing 8-6 in the third set, it was the Patriots turn!  Two kills by senior Shelby Shepherd and one from LeSueur helped spark a 9-0 run.  The Lions battled back to make it 23-21, but a setting error from Jill Elkins gave the Patriots set-point.  Freshman Julia Evans stepped up for the final kill and gave the Patriots a 25-22 victory.

The host school grabbed the momentum right back scoring the first three points of the fourth set, and eventually led 12-3.  It was all they needed as they cruised on for the four-set victory.

The Patriots will now have about a week off until they travel to take on long-time rival Lancaster Bible College on Tuesday, September 29th at 7PM!
