PHOENIXVILLE, PA - The University of Valley Forge Men's Soccer Team has not had the start it envisioned, going 0-6 to open the season. They were looking to get into the win column on Thursday afternoon, but PSU Brandywine would have something to say about that.
There were a lot of chances early on as both teams looked to get ahead early. The Lions would strike first. In the 14th minute, Lions' Dan Tyler had a great individual effort, out maneuvering a Patriots defender, to put them in the lead. They kept bringing the pressure to the Patriots in the first half, but the home team stood strong and went into the break down 1-0.
The Patriots got a perfect start to the second half. On a
Matthew Robinson throw-in, freshman
Samuel Ngoi Bikim flicked on to
Ryon McGinness, who headed to the feet of freshman
Brandon Nyekan, and Nyekan struck it to the back of net. It was a beautiful goal to tie it at 1-1 in the 48th minute.
However, 8 minutes later, the Lions' Manny Amine sent in a dangerous cross that found Josh Burton waiting at the far-post to put it in. The Lions reclaimed the lead.
The Patriots kept coming and were getting some decent opportunities, but couldn't quite connect for the equalizer. The Lions tacked on another goal in the 75th minute to give themselves some breathing room. The score held up as the Lions won, 3-1.
The Patriots next game will be on Sunday, September 20th at 4pm against Penn State Mont Alto at Home!
