PHOENIXVILLE, PA - The University of Valley Forge Men's Soccer Team let one get away on Sunday afternoon. Playing host to the Lions of Penn State Mont Alto, the Patriots let in two late second half goals to suffer a defeat, 2-1.
Neither team was able to score in the first half, but it wasn't for lack of effort. The Lions outshot the Patriots 11-7 in the first half, but both goalies put in a supreme effort. It was evident that any goal in this contest would be huge.
In the 64th minute, the Patriots struck first!
Samuel Ngoi Bikim put in a dangerous corner kick that found the head of
Preston Saunders. Saunders made no mistake as the ball found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. However, the lead didn't last long. Less than one minute later, Lions' Daulton Hershey also put in a dangerous corner kick. This time the ball deflected around and somehow found the back of the net for the equalizer. Ten minutes later, another dangerous corner kick from Hershey found the back of the net as Koby Griest out-jumped a Patriot to head it in. The Lions led with 15 minutes remaining.
The Patriots had a late chance with 5 minutes remaining, but Bikim's shot deflected off the crossbar and no harm was done. The Lions held on for the victory, 2-1.
The next game for the Patriots will be on Tuesday, September 22nd at Keystone College at 5pm. They will host Gallaudet on Thursday at 4:00pm.
