CLARKS SUMMIT, PA - On a rainy Saturday afternoon, the University of Valley Forge traveled to Summit University to take on long-time rival Summit University (formerly Baptist Bible College). Although the teams were very evenly matched, the Defenders were able to knock off the Patriots by a final score of 2-0.
In the first half, the Patriots seemed poised to take an early lead, getting several shots on goal, but the Defenders goalie, Ben Campbell, came up with some big saves. Then, the Defenders had an opportunity of their own on a corner kick. The ball found the head of Wesley Pincince and Summit grabbed the early lead just 15 minutes into the game. The Patriots had a few more opportunities to get the equalizer in the first half, but were unable to find the back of the net.
In the 5th minute of the second half the Defenders got another huge goal from Pincince. He found himself alone with the goalie on a defensive breakdown and Summit had a 2-goal lead. The Patriots made a push the next several minutes, but agin Campbell was there to close the door. Playing their second game in as many days, the Patriots ran out of steam and were unable to pose any real threat the final 20 minutes. The Defenders held on to their slim lead and walked away with the victory.
Patriots'
Samuel Ngoi Bikim led the team in shots with 4.
The Patriots next contest will be on the road on Tuesday, September 15th at Bryn Athyn. They will be looking for revenge as they lost to Bryn Athyn in their first game of the year, 2-0.
Go Patriots!
