BROOKLYN, NEW YORK - The University of Valley Forge Softball Team opened their season with two double-headers in New York this past weekend. After a slow start in the first few games, the team played very well in their final game of the road trip, but lost in the end, 7-15, against Yeshiva University. They went 0-4 on the weekend.
One of the bright spots for the Patriots was the play of Senior
Amanda McGinness. She went 4 for 8 from the plate, including two doubles, over the course of the four games and is batting .500 for the season.
Freshman
Naomi Thompson, pitched all four games for the Patriots, and also did very well at the plate in her first collegiate action. She went 5 for 11 on the weekend trip.
Sarah Brugere and
Samantha Reed also had three hits apiece.
On Saturday, St. Joseph's College defeated the Patriots by final scores of 0-13 and 2-14. In game one on Sunday, Yeshiva bested Valley Forge 10-1. However, in the final contest of the trip, the Patriots came out and played their best game.
Trailing 5-2 in the third inning, Patriots'
JoLyn Jones hit a bases loaded single to bring in two runs. Then, Thompson and McGinness each hit RBI singles to take a 6-5 lead. However, Yeshiva plated 9 runs in the bottom half of the inning and the Patriots were not able to respond. They lost by a final score of 15-7.
The Patriots will have their Home Opener on Tuesday against PSU Brandywine at 3PM @ the Back Field. It will be a double header.
