Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Late Rally Comes Up Short

PHOENIXVILLE – The University of Valley Forge women's basketball took on Penn State Schuylkill on Tuesday, February 3rd.  The Patriots would have their hands full against the Lions, who came into the contest with a record of 12-3.

The first half was pretty tight early on, with the Lions holding a 14-13 advantage at the 8:59 mark.  The Patriots' shooting from 3-point range kept things close for much of the half.  Mikala Brinson and Bailey Mayforth each knocked in two 3-pointers to pace the Patriots.  With 6:05 remaining in the half, Shequoya Bonner grabbed an offensive rebound and hit a jumper to keep it a one point margin, 19-18.  Holding a two point lead with 2:00 remaining, the Lions used a late 8-0 scoring run to give themselves a 32-22 lead at the half.

The surge continued at the start of the second half as the Lions went on a 24-4 run.  Lions' Andrea Watkins, Ashley Gordon, and Brenna Dosedlo proved difficult to stop.  The trio combined for 57 points.  Dosedlo also chipped in 9 assists.

However, the Patriots were not going down without a fight.  Although they were facing a 30-point deficit, they kept coming after the Lions.  After a barrage of 3-pointers from Brinson, Patience Ekuta, and Madison Arrowsmith, the Patriots trimmed the deficit to 12 (71-59).  The Lions were able to survive the comeback and held on to win by a final score of 75-59.

Lions' Anna Sue Tale was a force inside.  She grabbed 12 rebounds, scored 7 points, and had a game-high 5 blocks.  Kerrece Seuren was also a factor inside.  She had 16 rebounds and 7 points.

Mikala Brinson led the Patriots with 20 points and 5 assists.  Patience Ekuta and Bailey Mayforth each had 9 points.  Amanda McGinness had a team-high 12 rebounds, 5 assists, and chipped in 7 points.  Madison Arrowsmith was 2-3 from 3-point range and had 6 points.

The Patriots will look to rebound this Thursday as they travel to take on their rival, Lancaster Bible College.  The game will be broadcast LIVE at 7PM.  http://portal.stretchinternet.com/lbc/
