SUMMERDALE, PA - The University of Valley Forge Women's Basketball Team traveled to Cental Penn College Wednesday night. The host team took down the Patriots, pulling away in the second half, 73-61.
Mikala Brinson and
Amanda McGinness led the Patriots in the contest. Brinson scored 16 points and dished out a game-high 7 assists. McGinness had 11 points and 6 rebounds. Both players recorded 3 steals.
Valley Forge jumped out to an early five-point lead, after a 3-pointer from
Bailey Mayforth, who finished with 9 points. With 11 minutes remaining in the first half, MIkala Brinson hit a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 15-6. The Patriots were off to a great start. However, the Knights of Central Penn began to chip away at the lead. Over the next six minutes, they were able to close the gap to one, 19-18, with 4:35 to play in the half. The run continued for the remainder of the half the Patriots found themselves trailing 29-24 at the break.
The Knights built on their lead early in the second half, jumping out to a nine-point lead, 36-27. However, this time is was the Patriots turn to rally.
Patience Ekuta and Brinson hit back-to-back 3-pointers, bringing the game to a three-point margin. Still holding the lead with 9:24 to play, the Knights went on a 7-2 scoring to distance themselves from the Patriots. The Patriots tried clawing their way back again, but were unable to get the necessary stops on the defensive end.
After the game, Head Coach
Gretchen LeVan said, "We couldn't get stops on defense when we needed to. We kept getting it close, but turned the ball over too much to get back even with them."
The Knights held on for the victory, 73-61.
The Patriots remaining game will be Senior Day, this Saturday, February 21st @ 2PM against Davis College. Come show your support to
