Seniors Celebrate With Big Win

PHOENIXVILLE, PA – In their final game of the season, the University of Valley Forge Patriots celebrated Senior Day with a big win over the Davis College Falcons.  The Patriots used hot shooting from the outside, and a great effort from the seniors, to win by a final score of 75-58.

Patriots' Senior Amanda McGinness has had a lot to overcome this season, only playing in 15 of 25 games due to injuries.  She picked a great time to have a new career-high, scoring 20 points in the contest.  McGinness also had 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.  Her fellow senior, Aubrie McQuown, also had a new career-high, leading the team with 8 rebounds in 29 minutes of action.  Their effort really brought a lot of energy to the team.

While holding a 19-16 lead with 8:24 remaining in the first half, the Patriots went on an 8-0 scoring run to push their lead to 11.  The difference remained the same for the rest of the half as the Falcons were unable to keep it close.

Leading 37-26 at the start of the second half, the Patriots caught fire from 3-point range.  Bailey Mayforth and Mikala Brinson combined to make eight 3-pointers in the game.  As a team, Valley Forge shot 9-20 from 3-point range.  Brinson finished the game with 21 points and a game-high 6 assists.  Mayforth finished with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.

For the game, the Patriots shot 44.3% from the field and played a very un-selfish brand of basketball, totaling up a season-high 25 assists.  It was too much for the Falcons to overcome and Valley Forge went on to win, 75-58.

Head Coach Gretchen LeVan was asked about her team's performance after the game, "We shared the ball, hit our open shots, and our seniors played a great game.  It was the best game we've played all season.  I'm looking forward to carrying that momentum into next year."

Patriots' Patience Ekuta also had a solid game, scoring 8 points, dishing out 5 assists, and grabbing 5 rebounds.  Jerylin Ellis came off the bench and provided a big lift.  She scored 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.

This concludes the season for the young Patriots, finishing with a 5-20 record.  The future is bright as they carry momentum into the offseason!
