PHOENIXVILLE, PA - The University of Valley Forge Women's Basketball Team played Penn State Schuylkill on Thursday, January 29th. After leading much of the game, the Patriots were not able to hold on to victory. They lost by a final score of 61-54.
Overshadowed by the loss, the Patriots had many outstanding performances on the night. Determined to make up for their poor rebounding effort during their previous game, the Patriots did much better in this contest.
Ariene Ohimor had a game-high 18 rebounds and chipped in 8 points.
Amanda McGinness was also a factor inside as she grabbed 13 rebounds and scored 9 points.
Mikala Brinson led the Patriots offensively, scoring a game-high 26 points, including 5-10 from 3-point range.
Valley Forge got off to a hot start, opening up on a 10-0 lead. The Patriots held the same margin (27-17) with under a minute to play in the first half. However, back-to-back layups from Dominiue Grasso gave the Lions some momentum heading into the locker, trailing only by six.
Lions' Coleen Druby picked up three fouls in the first half and was a non-factor. The second half proved to be a different story. She scored all of her 15 points in the second half and helped bring the Lions back into the game. Trailing by three (49-46) with under 3:00 minutes to play, Druby nailed two 3-pointers and hit a pair of free throws to give the Lions the lead for good. They went on to win 61-54.
The Patriots played a very good game, but could not execute down the stretch. They will look to rebound this weekend as they travel to Brooklyn, NY to take on St. Joseph's College on Saturday, January 31
