KISSIMMEE, FLORIDA – The Valley Forge men's basketball team squared off against the host school, Johnson University Florida, on Friday evening. It would be a good test on the road for the young Patriots.
Using great passing and consistent shooting, Valley Forge got off to a very good start, building a 23-8 lead in the opening nine minutes. The Home team was fueled by Kaleb Baker in the first half as he helped bring the Suns back to within 11 at the 8:09 mark of the first half. Baker finished with a game high, 26 points. The Patriots, however, used a very balanced attack to gain the momentum back and build a lead at halftime, 51-27.
Brandon Rembert led the Patriots at the break with 13 points and 4 steals.
Devin Williams came off the bench and contributed 10 points while shooting 2-3 from three point range.
Brandon Summers chipped in 8 points on a perfect 4-4 shooting. The Patriots tallied 11 assists in the first half.
It was much of the same in the second half as the defensive pressure for the Patriots was too much for the Suns. They forced 27 turnovers for the game and converted that into 38 points. Rembert finished with a team high 22 points and 7 steals. The Patriots continued playing team basketball throughout the second half and finished with 23 assists. They pulled away from the Suns and won, 96-65.
Four Patriots finished in double figures, including 15 from Williams. Summers finished with 10 points and
Jean LeBlanc contributed 10 points as well. Rembert, Williams, and
Jerome Staley all finished with 4 assists.
In the final day of the tournament, the Patriots will be taking on Mid-Atlantic Christian University at 2pm, on Saturday. Tune into the action at
