Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Patriots Overwhelm Mustangs

KISSIMMEE, FLORIDA – Following a quick turn-around from Friday night's contest, the Patriots took on the Mustangs from Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Saturday.  This was their final contest in the Johnson University Florida Invitational.

Joseph Hill paced the Mustangs early on, scoring four straight layups to put MACU ahead 8-5.  Hill's size caused problems for the Patriots throughout the game.  He finished with 22 points on 9-12 shooting.  Jean LeBlanc and Joseph Taylor led the Patriots early on, combining to score the team's first 11 points.  Even though this was their third game in three days, the Patriots looked like the fresher team.  Fueled by their signature pressure defense, the Patriots jumped out to a 29-18 lead after a Kevin Mack layup with 9:02 remaining in the first half.  The team continued to be very aggressive on the defensive end.  While they piled up 9 steals and scored 15 points off turnovers in the first half, they also put the Mustangs on the free throw line 18 times, and 40 for the game.  Fortunately for the Patriots, MACU only shot 60% from the line.  LeBlanc and Taylor also combined for 5 three-pointers in the first half and helped push the lead to 59-36 at the break.

Another storyline for this game was the Patriots unselfish play.  As play continued into the second half, they racked up a season-high 35 assists for the game.  Mack had a game high 8 assists, while Brandon Rembert also had 7 assists.  There was no let-up in the Patriots in the second half.  They kept playing Patriots basketball and cruised on to victory, 112-69.

Four Patriots finished in double figures.  Taylor and LeBlanc each had 22 points.  Mack finished with 20 points and David Whitaker finished the game with 10 points.

The team now heads back home to get ready for a Tuesday night match up at Penn State Brandywine.

Go Patriots!
