MEDIA, PA – Playing their 4
th game in 6 days, the University of Valley Forge men's basketball team traveled to play Penn State Brandywine on Tuesday night.
The Patriots showed no signs of tired legs in this match up. They are continuing to get to their game, playing pressure defense and pushing the ball in transition. After a layup from
Tony Hazzard with 17:18 to play in the first half, the Patriots stormed out to an early lead (13-4). The Lions climbed their way back into the game, after a jumper from Pat O'Neill brought the lead back to three at the 15:16 mark. However, the Patriots responded by going on a 10-0 scoring run and pushing the lead to 27-14. The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half as the Patriots held a 45-33 edge at the break.
The difference in this game was the defensive intensity for the Patriots. After forcing 20 turnovers in the first half, the pressure continued into the second as the Patriots forced the Lions to shoot 31.6% from the field. The Lions only shot 40.6% for the game, compared to the Patriots 46.2%. The team has also been showing good signs of a balanced attack. Ten different players scored in the second half as they continued to build on their lead. After a layup from
Joseph Taylor at the 15:20 mark, the Patriots led 62-40. The Lions were unable to find their way back into the game as the Patriots pulled away for the victory, 99-67.
Jean LeBlanc led the team in scoring with 17 points.
Brandon Rembert (7 rebounds) and
Thorne McIntosh each finished with 16 points.
Kevin Mack (8 rebounds, 6 assists) pitched in 12 points and Taylor rounded out the double digit scoring with 11.
The team now has a week off before their next game. They will travel to Lancaster, PA to take on #2 ranked Lancaster Bible College on Tuesday, January 20
th in a big rivalry match up!
