Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball Takes Set From Bryn Athyn

PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The women's volleyball team fell in a four set match against visiting opponent, Bryn Athyn College, Tuesday, September 9.

The Lady Patriots have had a frustrating history with the Lady Lions, as Bryn Athyn has been able to sweep VFCC in three straight sets for the past several years.  This time, though it wasn't a match victory, the Lady Patriots managed to stay within five points of their competitor throughout the night and take the second set, 25-20.  VFCC dropped the first, third and fourth sets, 22-25, 21-25, 18-25.

VFCC's setters ran a smooth offense, moving around their hitters to spread the attack and dishing out 33 assists.  The women were able to slow down the Lady Lion's attack, coming up with several big blocks but could not find a complete answer for Bryn Athyn's top hitter, Kaitlyn Brock.

The women were able to string together several plays to go on small runs but simple unforced errors worked against them as Bryn Athyn capitalized on VFCC's mistakes to stay ahead.  The teams were tied multiple times in every set but it was the Lady Lions that managed to come out on top and slip by the host school.
Shelby Shepherd recorded a career high of nine kills and two blocks.  Madison Arrowsmith played a fantastic game with eight kills and just one error and two aces.

Mackenzie Thibodeau made her presence known with six kills and 14 assists.  Brittany Eberly finished the night with 13 digs.

The women come right back to the court to host Penn State Schuylkill, Wednesday, September 10.  The Lady Patriots are set to compete against the Lions at 7PM in The Pit.

Go Patriots!
