Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Fight to The Finish

PHOENIXVILLE, PA- On Saturday, September 6, the women's volleyball team hosted a single game against Mount Aloysius College.  Despite the continuous battle, the women dropped the match to the Mounties in three straight sets, 0-3.

The Lady Patriots started the first two sets from behind but managed to stay within range of the visitors.  Strong blocks and quick defense allowed VFCC to control the Mounties' attacks.  After several extended vollies however, the Mounties quickened their tempo and managed to find the gaps in the Patriots' defense.  Unable to find an answer for the Mounties middles, VFCC dropped the first set, 16-25, and the second set, 14-25.

Going into the third set the Lady Patriots were determined to correct their mistakes.  Although falling behind in the beginning the women rebounded from their mistakes and managed to catchup with the opponent, tying the Mounties several times.  Knowing they were fighting a faster and taller team, the women continued to move around their attack and cover the gaps.  Led by strong serves the women stayed with their opponent until the 21st point.  Missing a serve, the Patriots gave the ball back to the Mounties and miscommunicated on serve receive to go down by two points, 21-23.  Adjusting the Lady Patriots managed to set up their next play to grab the kill and trail by one, 22-23.  Both teams went back and forth giving every ounce of energy they had until the Mounties caught the Lady Patriots in transition to hit set point, 22-24.  VFCC caught a break as the Mountie's server erred and handed the ball back to the home team.  With no room for error, the women played smart until a final attack went straight into Mounties block and down to the ground, giving them their 25th point.

"I was very happy with how we competed tonight.  The score can't always show the length of an earned point.  We have continued to improve in every area and each win or loss the girls look forward to the next moment they can compete and progress in their skill", explained Head Coach Amanda Gauthier.

Gabrielle Martin continued to control the floor with eight kills and 11 digs.

Olivia Wireman made herself known with 13 assists, three aces and three kills.

Aubrie McQuown added four kills on the night, while Brittney Eberly recorded 13 digs.

The women remain at home for their next match against Bryn Athyn College.  The Lady Patriots host the Lions on Tuesday, September 9, at 7PM in The Pit.
