PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The Valley Forge Christian College Patriots Men's soccer team took on the Keystone College Giants and hoped that home field advantage would work in their favor. The Patriots were looking to record their second win of the season, but knew they would have to play a flawless game against a tough Giants squad.
The Giants were chomping at the bit, as was evidenced by the fact that they scored a goal :58 seconds into the first half, and followed up that quick burst with two more goals before the 9:00 minute mark. The Patriots were on the defensive early and often as a relentless Giants team unleashed shot after shot, testing
Stephan Erickson repeatedly. Keystone's Rolando Rodriguez scored a goal at 40:18 to put the score at 4-0, which is where the half ended.
Looking to recover from their first half woes, the Patriots found themselves back on their heels in the second half, with the Giants unleashing a torrent of corner kicks 11 shots on substitute goalie
Kevin Carbajal before netting one at the 71
st minute of the game. Keystone would score one more goal later in the game, but the statistic of the afternoon was the volume of shots taken, with the scales tipping overwhelmingly in favor of the Giants to the tune of 38 shots with 17 on goal to the Patriots single shot.
The Patriots take on Lehman College this Wednesday, September 17. The Patriots will travel to Bronx, NY for a 6PM start.
