The Valley Forge Christian College women's soccer team kicked off the 2014 fall sports season with a game against Cairn University. The Highlanders, who are currently ranked 3
rd in the nation, defeated the Lady Patriots by a final score of 10-0.
Cairn set the tone for the game, scoring their first goal in under two minutes. Over the course the next 42 minutes the Highlanders released an arsenal of shots, attacking the goal 43 times and scoring four more goals.
In the second half the Lady Patriots managed to adjust their defense and hold a stronger line to limit the damage. The Highlanders pushed back however, rushing past the Patriot's defensive line to record another five goals by the sound of the horn.
Amanda McGinness was put to the test and recorded 19 saves.
"I was impressed with the Cairn team and they really worked our system. I was happy with McGinness's play at goalkeeper. Overall we need to improve on our positioning and several other details but despite the score, I saw progress in the ladies today," stated Head Coach Juan Delcid.
The women receive little time to recover as they host Notre Dame of Maryland, Saturday, August 30. The game is set to start at 1PM.
Go Patriots!
