In their home opener, the men's soccer team hosted Bryn Athyn College, Friday, August 29. The young team showed great promise but were unable to sustain their efforts against an unrelenting Lion attack. The Patriots fell by a final score of 2-5.
It was a fast paced game but the men were able to keep the Lions at bay. Finally in the 28
th minute, Bryn Athyn broke down the Patriot's defenses and scored the first goal of the game. Eight minutes later the Lion's added another goal to their score to go up 2-0. The Patriots answered right back with a goal from
Selom Dodoh, assisted by
Kevin Carbajal. Just before the half ran out, the Lions managed to slip in one more goal to go up 3-1.
The Patriots looked to hold the line coming out of halftime and keep the game within reach, however the Lion's had other plans as they recorded two more goals within the next 20 minutes. Not to go down without a fight, the Patriots recorded one last goal in the 77
th minute off of a corner kick. Battling till the final seconds the Patriots finally relented and gave up their first game.
Coach Vernon Dorsey had this to say after the game, "Our team played with incredible effort. They are young and still need some experience. I was impressed with the play of
Zachary Bowerman and Kevin and Asana. We need to tighten up on the midfield and defend the line in order to take away some of the easy passes the opponent was getting through."
The men take the weekend to rest before traveling to Mount Aloysius on September 5. The Mounties host the Patriots for a 4PM game.
Go Patriots!
