LANCASTER, PA- The Patriots faced the Lancaster Bible College Highlanders, Thursday, April 24. In a two-game match-up, the Chargers proved to be the dominant force, handling the Patriots in game one, 2-31, and 3-16 in game two.
There wasn't much to report in game one, as the men were trampled by the Chargers, taking a 2-31 loss. Game two provided a more pleasant pastime as the Patriots jumped out first in the scorebooks.
Jonathan Manning got things going from the start with a single then advancing to second with a single from
Matt McKenzie.
Josh Strohm followed, grounding out to second base but advanced both runners to put the Patriots in scoring position. Manning and McKenzie made their way home over the next two plays, crossing the plate on an error from third base and a single from
Jared Boothman before the Chargers closed out the inning.
The Patriot's defense held strong for two innings; keep the host school off the board before things took a turn. After a single run in the third, the Chargers broke the game wide open scoring eight runs in the fourth to take a 9-1 lead. The Patriots managed one more run in the seventh but couldn't stop the Defenders from scoring seven more runs to take the sweep.
Jonathan Manning went 3-for-4 with 2 runs while
Jared Boothman went 3-for-6 earning two runs for the night.
The team enters their final stretch of the season, playing their second to last game at home against Baptist Bible College. The Patriots host the Defenders in two games starting at 1pm.
