Swan Honored On Senior Night

PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The Lady Patriots played host to the Lady Bears of St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) for their final home game of the 2014 season.   The game played out in an all too familiar fashion as the women fell behind early in both games and were defeated by finals scores of 2-11 in both contests.

In game one the Lady Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the third inning.  With VFCC up to bat and one out against them, Madison Arrowsmith and Rachel Gomez reached first on a walk to have runners on first and second.  After a strikeout from Molly Rupert, Samantha Reed singled on a hit to center field before advancing on an error.  Arrowsmith and Gomez crossed home before Reed was caught advancing to third base.  Despite making a small comeback, the Lady Bears would hold the host school to just two runs as they increased their lead by eight more runs by the end of the fifth inning to close out the game.

Game two unfolded comparable to game one, as the Lady Bears held a 7-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning.  The Lady Patriots were able to earn one run from Ariene Ohimor as she crossed home off a single from Molly Rupert to delay the mercy rule.  The game would come to a close after the next inning as St. Joseph's picked up four more runs compared to VFCC's one.

A highlight from the night came at the start of the second game as the team celebrated Elizabeth Swan's senior night.  Swan played two seasons for the Lady Patriots, anchoring their outfield.

The team plays one final game on the road against Cairn University.  The Highlanders host the Lady Patriots in a doubleheader competition scheduled to start at 2pm.
