Game Recap: Softball |

Chargers Tame Lady Patriots

LANCASTER , PA- The women's softball team traveled to Lancaster Bible College to compete in a doubleheader matchup against the LBC Chargers.  In a series of fielding mishaps, the Lady Patriots fell to the host school in both games with a final score of 0-13 in game one and 2-10 in game two.

The Chargers' pitcher appeared to be unbeatable, striking out 14 batters over the course of the five innings.  The Patriots accrued two hits during the game, getting to second base just twice.  On the Chargers end of the bat, the team found all the right spots, keeping VFCC scrambling around the field to earn eight runs in the first inning.  Damage continued in the third and fourth inning as the Chargers recorded five more runs before the close of the game.

Game two the women limited the damage, allowing just three runs in the first.  As the game went on, the Lady Patriots were able to connect with the ball recording six hits and loading the bases in the top of the second inning before the Chargers put a stop to the run and held the women from scoring.

Top of the third inning, Samantha Reed made solid connection to single and get on base before stealing second to give the Lady Patriots a chance to score.  Amanda McGinness grounded out to second but gave enough time to advance Reed to third.  Next at bat, Sarah Brugere reach first off of an error by second base and allowed Reed to cross home for the first Patriot run of the day.   A single and walk brought Brugere to third and loaded the bases before Ariene Ohimor grounded out to the pitcher.  Despite getting out, Ohimor's hit earned her an RBI as Brugere came home to put the Patriots just six runs back 2-8.  That ended the run for the women however, as the Chargers regrouped and refused any more runs for the remainder of the game.

The softball team celebrates senior day, Saturday, April 26, playing host to St. Joseph's College Brooklyn.  At that time senior Elizabeth Swan will be recognized for her two years on the softball team.
