Two For Seven

PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The Lady Patriots hosted Penn State Brandywine in a single game face-off, Monday, April 21.  VFCC stayed with the visitors, trailing by just one run until the fourth inning before the Lions pulled away, taking the game from the women by a final score of 2-9.

The Lions caught an easy break, walking in their first three runs in the opening inning.  After a quick pitching change from the Patriots, Molly Rupert struck out the next two batters to end the Lions' run.  Hoping to catch up, Sam Reed connected for a single into left field.  Following her, Amanda McGinness sailed the ball up the middle and capitalized off a fielding blunder to reach third base and bring Reed home to put the score at 1-3.  Sarah Brugere grounded out to shortstop but bought enough time to bring McGinness across the plate to trail by just one, 2-3, before the close of the first inning.

Defenses were equally matched as both teams went without a run for the next two innings, not even allowing a single runner to reach first.  Unfortunately it would be the Lions' who would figure out a way of the offensive drought, scoring six more runs over the course of the final four innings.

The teams were almost identical in stats with 21 putouts and two fielding errors. The Lions recorded nine runs off of nine hits, while the Lady Patriots recorded just two runs off of seven hits.  The biggest difference came in the form of doubles.  The Lions managed to hit three doubles, bringing their players across home plate at a faster rate, while the Lady Patriots were held to single base hits.

Molly Rupert recorded seven strikeouts for the home team.  Amanda McGinness went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run.
The women travel for their next doubleheader against the Lancaster Bible College Chargers.  The East Region matchup is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, with a start time of 3pm.
