RADNER, PA- The softball team wrapped up their week of play with a road game against host school Cabrini College. The Cavaliers defended their home field, outplaying the Lady Patriots, 8-0 in game one and 8-1 in game two.
The women needed to do damage control after three walks and an error set the stage for a Cavaliers offensive run. Giving up five runs in the bottom of the first inning, the women buckled down their defensive and held Cabrini from scoring again in the second inning. Third inning revealed a struggle in the outfield for the Patriots as two fielding errors led to three unearned runs and padding the Cavaliers lead to 8-0.
Held to just two hits the entire game, both from
Amanda McGinness, VFCC batters couldn't find a way around the defensive, advancing as far as second base just once. After going scoreless in the fifth inning, the Patriots trailed by just enough to invoke the mercy rule and bring game one to an end.
The second game appeared to be deja` vu as the Cavaliers took a 4-0 lead at the bottom of the second inning. Top of the third,
Rachel Gomez made her way to first off of a walk before advancing to second with hit from
Elizabeth Swan. Capitalizing on a Cavaliers' first base fielding error, Gomez raced around the bases to record the first and only run for the visitors. The Cavaliers picked up four more runs by the close of the second game, taking it by a final score of 8-1.
The Lady Patriots return to their home field for their next competition, hosting a single game for Penn State Brandywine, Monday, April 21, at 6pm.
Go Patriots!
