HARRISBURG, PA- Going up against a solid Lion's defense and pitching power, the women's softball team fell, 0-15 and 1-10, in a doubleheader meeting with Penn State Harrisburg.
Sometimes the first inning of the first game is the toughest to get through and that statement held true for the Lady Patriots. Giving up 10 runs in the first, the women attempted to battle back at the plate to even the score. Between striking out and perfect placement to the Lion's defense, the women couldn't get any further than third base. The second and third inning's showed a stronger Patriots' defense, holding the Lions at zero runs before giving up five more at the bottom of the fourth to end the game 0-15.
Things started to look up for the team as the second game got underway. Sam Reed reached first on a fielder's choice before advancing to second on a wild pitch. A single from
Amanda McGinness allowed Reed to advance to third and prime scoring position before a fielding error permitted
Sarah Brugere to reach first and distract the Lion's long enough to have Reed reach home.
After the first inning the Lady Patriot's offensive momentum came to a halt, as zero runs were allowed from that point on. The women were able to space out the Lion's runs but enough damage was done to keep the women from earning another season win.
The Lady Patriots travel for their final game before Easter Break, paying a visit to Cabrini College, Thursday, April 17. Game one is scheduled for a 3:30pm start!
