LANGHORNE, PA- The men's baseball team traveled to Cairn University to play against the Highlanders in an East Region matchup. The Patriots were allowed just one run per game as the host school overpowered them, 23-1, in game one and 9-1 in game two.
Things started off strong for the Patriots in the first inning with a double into left center field from
Josh Strohm. A walk for
James Comenzo and
Jared Boothman loaded the bases as
Steven Profetto stepped up to the plate. Buying his time, Profetto beat out Cairn's pitcher, earning a walk to first base and bringing in Strohm to put the team on the scoreboard. Cairn's pitcher quickly recovered, striking out the next two batters to end the inning. It was the only run for the Patriots as the Highlanders defense held the Patriots from advancing, while the Patriots committed seven errors to allow the Highlanders 23 runs.
Into game two, the Patriots were able to stabilize and contain the Highlanders' offensive strength, limiting their runs per inning. It wasn't until the top of the fourth that the Patriots were able to cross home plate. After a walk from
James Comenzo,
Jared Boothman beamed a double into the outfield, allowing Comenzo to round the bases for the Patriot's first and only run of the game. Solidifying their defense the Patriots allowed just three more runs before the game came to a close.
The Patriots were held to just eight hits between the two games, while Cairn totaled 37.
The Patriots return home for the final game before the Easter Break, hosting St. Joseph College Brooklyn, Thursday, April 17. The first of two games is set to start at 3pm!
