Wildcats Take Two From Patriots

ITHACA, NY- The Patriots' baseball team dropped a doubleheader matchup against the Cazenovia Wildcats, Saturday, April 5, by final scores of 0-5 and 0-10.

The cold weather took its effect on both teams as game one proved to show little action.  The Patriots took first at-bat, recording a one-out double from Josh Strohm before the Wildcats' pitcher retired the next two batters with a strikeout and ground out to the shortstop.  How it was the Wildcats' turn to bat.  Using two Patriots' errors to their advantage, the host school nabbed a 2-0 lead.

At the top of the second inning, Bryce Koch took a free pass to first base before making his way into prime scoring position at third base.  The Wildcats refused the Patriots' possible run, holding Koch at third while grabbing three straight outs.

The next six innings progressed quickly and uneventful as the Patriots were unable to record just two more hits while the Wildcats earned three more runs to end the game 0-5 at the bottom of the seventh inning.

Game two proved to be a defensive battle.  After the Wildcats recorded a single run in the bottom of the first inning, both teams went into a scoring dry spell until the bottom of the fifth inning.  That's when things started to heat up.  But not for the Patriots.  In the bottom of the fifth inning the Wildcats started to hit a hot streak, nearly going all the way around their lineup and recording six runs.  Into the next inning, the Patriots were unable to match the runs and gave up three more to the host school to trail by ten (0-10).  After getting one last chance at bat, the Patriots couldn't come back with an answer, allowing the Wildcats to walk away with the game.

The Patriots take the next few days to rest up before traveling to Penn State Schuylkill, Wednesday, April 9.  The first of two games is set to start at 2pm.
