McGinness Records First Home Run Of Season In Loss To Lions

PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The Lady Patriots hosted Penn State Hazelton in a doubleheader match-up, Thursday, March 27.  Although the women dropped both games to the Lions, 0-12 and 1-22, junior shortstop Amanda McGinness recorded her first home run of the season!

The team started off strong, keeping the Lions off the scoreboard for the first inning.  In the second inning the Lady Patriots hit some trouble, as the visitors managed to get on base and steal to get in scoring position.  A double and triple hit from the Lions left VFCC trailing 0-4 by the time the inning came to a close.  As the game continued, the Lady Patriots continued to struggle behind the plate, popping everything up for the easy out.   Without runs of their own and the Lady Lions recording doubles and triples, the women gave up game one, 0-12.

Game two provided more issues for the women, as Hazelton recorded seven runs in the first inning and seven runs in the second inning.  A few strategic defensive changes allowed the Lady Patriots to control the damage and limit the Lions to just three additional runs in the third.  Offensive woes continued as the failure to connect the bat to the ball left VFCC off the scoreboard.  The silver lining came in the bottom of the fourth inning as junior shortstop Amanda McGinness connected perfectly with a fastball to send it clear over the fence!  The game came to a close one inning later after a few more runs from the Lions, 22-1.

The Lady Patriots stay home for their next game, hosting Penn State Brandywine, Monday, March 31.  The first game is scheduled for a 3pm start time!
