Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Tale of Two Halves

SCHUYLKILL, PA- The women's basketball team competed against host school Penn State Schuylkill, Saturday, February 9.  The Patriots were looking for their first road win of the season but would leave the host school still searching, as the Lions defeated the Patriots, 45-68.

The Lions were the first to make their mark on the scoreboard and went on a 13-4 run to lead the Patriots 13-4 with just under five minutes played in the game.  The women refused to back down and sped up their offense to cut the deficit to just two, 14-16, with 8:37 on the clock with precise shots from Mikala Brinson and Amanda McGinness.  The Lions answered right back with two jumpers of their own, going up 22-16.  The clock was winding down to the break and both teams were looking for the edge.  With 1:29 displayed on the board, a jumper from Amanda McGinness tied the Patriots for the first time with the Lions.  Right before time ran out, the host school was brought to the charity stripe off a foul from Mikala Brinson.  Making good on both, the Lions went into the locker room with a two-point lead, 24-22.

The story of the second half was unfortunately very different.  The Lions bounded over the Patriots, rolling into a double-digit lead just three minutes into the period.  Caught off guard, the Patriots were unable to regroup and play like they did in the first half and watched as their chances for a win slip away.

The Patriots shot just 27% in the second half compared to the Lion's 67% and committed nearly double the turnovers, 21-11.

Mikala Brinson knocked down 17 points with six rebounds and six assists, while Amanda McGinness played solid earning another career double-double.  McGinness had 16 points and 13 rebounds.

The Patriots take the remainder of the weekend to rest before traveling to play host school Central Penn College.  The game is scheduled for 6 pm start on Tuesday, February 11.
