PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The Patriots hosted East Region competitor Cairn University, Saturday, February 15. In an exciting display of offensive power, the Patriots outplayed the Highlanders to roll to an easy victory of 72-44!
It has been a long stretch for the women, as the young team searched for another season win. Glimpses of possible victory fell short as turnovers and frustration would get the better of them. Heading into the game the Patriots were ready for a long awaited victory, especially against an East Region opponent to grab a second seed for playoffs.
The Patriots were the first to punch into the game with a jumper from
Amanda McGinness and built a small cushion as the Highlanders started to make their way onto the board. With just under 13 minutes to go, the score was suddenly tied and then in favor of the visitors. In the past, the Patriots would have tried to rectify their mistakes, usually resulting in further turnovers and missed shots, but this time things went a little differently. Playing as a team the women quickly took back control and launched themselves into a double-digit lead with 7:22 left in the first half.
The Patriots never looked back as their halftime buffer of 16 points, 34-18, extended to 32 points, 71-39, with 4:03 remaining in the game. The women played as a team for the final minutes to seal the deal on their victory over the Highlanders.
Freshman
Mikala Brinson scored 23 points along with nine boards.
Taniyah Faison tallied 16 points on the night with two steals, while
Amanda McGinness had 15 points and six rebounds.
The biggest difference for the Patriots came in the form of turnovers. The women were able to commit a season low of 8 turnovers. The team out-rebounded the highlanders 55-44, grabbing 14 second-chance points.
The Patriots head into the final stretch of their regular season play, with just three games left before post season play. The women travel to Bryn Athens College, Monday, February 17, to play the Lady Lions at 6 pm.
Go Patriots!
