Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

McGinness Shuts Out Tigers For The Win!

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The women's soccer team has fought long and hard for their first victory of the season. At long last their perseverance was rewarded with a shutout against Trinity Washington University in an exciting 1-0 victory in their final road match of the season!

For the first five minutes the Lady Patriots and Lady Tigers went back and forth with each team attempting to move the ball up the field into their opponent's territory. At the 5:51 mark Valley Forge's Kelsey Morrison made a good read on a ball coming from the Lady Tigers at the top of the 18 yard box and intercepted the pass and proceeded to dribble the ball toward the goal and beat Trinity's goalie near post. The Lady Patriots now had a 1-0 lead and would do everything in their power to protect it.

The remainder of the first was slow offensively as each team was limited in their shots. Defensive lines held firm to clear the ball and protect their zones. As time ran out the Lady Patriots held on to their lead, 1-0, going into the break.

Into the second period the Lady Tigers were relentless in their attack. Holding strong on defense the Lady Patriots were able to hold the host school at bay denying shot after shot. Valley Forge made multiple attempts to strengthen their lead but was turned away early, taking just one shot on goal the entire second half despite repeated attacks at the back line. Realizing defense was how the game would be won, the team focused their attention on closing down Trinity's long shots and scramble their offense. Top goalie Amanda McGinness was just as hungry for the win, seeming impenetrable at the goal refusing to let anything go by her. With their one goal lead and meticulous defense, the women secured their first victory of the season and a first career shutout for Amanda McGinness!

Amanda McGinness recorded 12 saves for the game.

The women play at home for the remainder of the season and will host Wilson College for a 2PM start on Tuesday, October 7!
