Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Shock Stun Lady Patriots

TACOMA PARKS- The University of Valley Forge Lady Patriots women's soccer team traveled to Washington Adventist University for a game this afternoon that had both teams searching for a "one" in the win column.  The game would be a back and forth affair, with plenty of opportunities for both sides to put one in the back of the net, however only one of the teams could capitalize on these chances.

Though Valley Forge did have the first crack at a potential goal with a shot by Kelsey Morrison, Washington Adventist capitalized early with a goal at the 5:49 mark by Tashana Hunter.  Hunter took advantage of a goal kick gone awry, intercepting it and dribbling into the box for a shot on goal.  She would connect on that shot to put the Shock up 1-0.  Both teams would have periods of play throughout the rest of the first half where they threatened offensively, however goals were difficult to come by as the half ended with Washington Adventist still leading by one.

The flurry of shots and offensive pressure would continue throughout the first 30 minutes of the second stanza before finally a second goal was yielded.  Unfortunately for the Lady Patriots, they again found themselves on the wrong side of the scoring, with the second and final goal of the game coming on a breakaway directly from the foot of goalkeeper Tashika Russell that found Karis Powell.  Powell dribbled into the box, bearing down on UVF goalkeeper Amanda McGinness before scoring far post.  McGinness faced 9 shots on goal, saving 7 of them.  The Lady Patriots could only manage to take 9 shots, putting 4 of them on goal despite numerous chances off of corner kicks.  Late attempts by Morrison, Rachel Stormes, and Caitlin LaFountain were turned away as the Shock held on to win 2-0.

The Lady Patriots travel to the D.C. area, visiting Trinity Washington University, Saturday, October 4.  The Lady Tigers host Valley Forge for a 1PM start time.
