PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The UVF men's soccer team took the field against the Davis College Falcons in what would prove to be an extremely hard fought and exciting game that came down to who would score last. With the outcome in question throughout the game, both teams would draw upon their reserves of both physical and mental toughness in an effort to end the game on top.
The scoring started off quickly with a goal at the 4:16 mark by
Selom Dodoh on a highly contested shot coming off Dodoh's left foot. After the Patriots took an early 1-0 lead, both teams would settle into the game a bit, with each possessing the ball, creating opportunities, and nearly missing on various different attempts throughout the half. Both defenses held firm despite being pressured, and many shots taken by both teams would sail just wide of their intended target. Eventually the Falcons were able to tie the game on a shot by Ken Carmen that proved difficult to handle for UVF goalie
Zach Barbieri. The half would end in a 1-1 tie with the hopes that the second half would continue to excitement…it would not disappoint.
Davis College came out firing, taking multiple shots early on. Carmen was again able to send one to the back of the net, this time at the 58:24 mark that gave the Falcons the lead 2-1. Not content with being down, the Patriots rallied in a big way. Not to be denied a win, Patriot
Stephan Erickson would put away a goal at the 74:24 mark to tie the game up. Shortly thereafter, and with less than 7 minutes of time left in the game,
Kevin Carbajal would field a pass from Dodoh, dribble up the field, and score the go ahead goal in dramatic fashion to put the Patriots ahead! Barbieri would be tested twice more by two shots on goal, but he rose to the occasion and helped the Patriots hold on to their lead to ground the Falcons to the tune of a 3-2 victory.
The team remains at home for their next game, hosting Berkeley College (NJ), Friday, October 3. Kickoff is set for 3:30PM!
Go Patriots!
