Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wilson's Offensive Power Too Much For Women's Basketball

CHAMBERSBURG, PA- The women's basketball team forfeited a first-half lead against the Wilson College Phoenix, Monday, January 27, and dropped the match, 64-72.

Until just under two minutes the Patriots were able to control the scoreboard.  Despite allowing the Phoenix to take the lead by a point or two, the Patriots ruled the floor, leading the offensive charge.  Then, just before heading into the break, the Patriots committed several big turnovers, giving the Phoenix the edge and lead as the clock went blank.

Returning from the break the Patriots continued to fight tooth and nail to regain their advantage.  Offensively the women did everything correct, passing the ball to make the defense work.  The problem for the Patriots came on defense, in the form of the Phoenix' senior Vanessa Whitfield.  Whitfield appeared untouchable, scoring 20 points in the first and 29 points in the second.  Unable to put a solid stop against her, the Patriots were unable to slow the host school's offensive roll.  Mixed with starter foul trouble, the Patriots needed to start playing safe instead of aggressive.  The Phoenix played off the Patriots new game plan and allowed the clock to run out and take the win.

"Our improvement is there.  Each game we play more united.  That was evident tonight in the way we shared the ball and everyone that played, scored.  Now it's just bringing together the defense, but it is coming along" stated Head Coach Gretchen LeVan.

Taniyah Faison tallied a personal season best 25 points, along with two assists and two steals.  Amanda McGinness notched 12 points and eight rebounds, while Ariene Ohimor had 13 rebounds and nine points.

The Patriots get the home court advantage for their next match-up on Wednesday, January 29, against Penn State Brandywine.  The game is scheduled for a 7 pm start time.
