WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Patriots traveled to Washington, D.C. Saturday, January 25, to play host school Trinity Washington University. Even though the women held an early lead against the Tigers, the team was unable to maintain their dominance and fell, 54-70.
Everything was going right for the Patriots. The team worked together to move the ball around and create as many open shots as possible and went a small run to lead the Tigers, 14-5, at the 14:46 mark. Then the tides began to turn, and it wasn't due to shooting, but who was dominating the glass. The Patriots found themselves outmatched in the rebound game and without being able to get second-chance points, the Tigers not only seized the lead, but ran away with it.
The Patriots were down but just six points coming back from halftime, 22-28. The Tigers refused to budge on their lead, extending it into the double digits. At the 13:29 mark, the Patriots were able to come within five, but it only lasted a short time as the host school went on a 9-0 run to push their advantage back into the teens and hold it until the clock ran out.
Assistant Coach Casey Slack had this to say after the game, "Started the game strong, leading most of the first half. When we fell behind we continued to fight hard to the end, but we lost this game at the boards." The Patriots were outrebounded 54-25.
Sophomore
Amanda McGinness displayed a solid game with 16 points and six rebounds.
Mikala Brinson continues to lead the team in scoring, registering 17 points along with three assists and one steal.
The Patriots travel against for their next match against Wilson College on Monday, January 27. The Patriots are set to compete against the Phoenix at 7 pm.
