PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The women's basketball team faced another tough loss against St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn), Thursday, January 23. The Patriots were edged out by the Lady Bears by a final score of 44-61.
The Patriots faced a tough defense, as the Lady Bears are currently ranked No. 3 in NCAA III opponent's field goal percentage. Five minutes into the first half the Lady Bears went on a 10-0 run and just kept going until the break, leading 29-17, going into the locker room.
Into the second stanza, the Patriots were able to raise their shooting percentage, limit their turnovers and compete against the Lady Bears in rebounds. Unfortunately, it was the errors committed in the first half that kept the women from gaining solid ground in the race for the win. By the end of the game the Lady Bears shot 36% from the floor compared to the Patriots 20%.
"We are slowly putting it together" explained Head Coach
Gretchen LeVan. "Our youth is evident throughout the game, but each time we are showing longer periods of progress".
Mikala Brinson led the women in scoring 19 points in combination with seven rebounds and three steals.
Taniyah Faison recorded 15 points while
Amanda McGinness tallied a personal season high of 15 rebounds.
The women travel to Washington, D.C. for their next match against Trinity Washington University, Saturday, January 25. The Patriots are set to play the Tigers at 2 pm.
