Looking to capture a first win for the season, the women's volleyball team traveled to Middletown, Pa. to compete against host school, Penn State Harrisburg. After an aggressive four set match, the Patriots were finally defeated, 19-25, 12-25, 25-16, 11-25.
The ladies played an aggressive first set, contesting every hit and serve that the Lions threw at them. The set came down to the last few points with the Lions pulling away at the end. Set number two revealed a slower side to the Patriots, struggling to keep up and find a run until it was too late and found themselves down 0-2.
Refusing to be swept, the Patriots played a near perfect third set, protecting the net and coming away with zero hitting errors. Courtney Farabee anchored the defense, playing one of the best games of her career refusing to let anything hit the floor and allowing the team to capture set number three! Unfortunately, the Patriots seemed to run out of steam for the fourth set, falling out of system and making detrimental errors to give up the set and the match.
"We kept up with the best of them. Our team corrected the things that needed to be corrected and left it all on the court. We took a set from a team we have never beaten and made them work from every point," Assistant Coach Carrie Maurio stated.
Courtney Farabee had a stellar game, leading the team with 29 digs on the night.
Katie Clarke led the offense with seven kills along with an ace, a solo block and five digs.
Madison Arrowsmith had five kills and an ace.
The ladies receive no time to rest as they travel to Bryn Athen, tomorrow, September 5. The Patriots take on host school Bryn Athen College at 7pm!
Go Patriots!
