Johnston, NY- The Valley Forge Christian College women's volleyball team got off to a slower start than desired, Friday, August 30, falling to Davis College in four sets with final scores of 20-25, 21-25, 25-22 and 24-26.
With several new players and a regular out of their lineup, the Lady Patriots looked to find the right chemistry among themselves. However, the ladies momentum would go up and down as they started each set from behind, letting a series of hitting and serving errors hold them back from taking over the lead and giving up the first two sets 20-25 and 21-25.
Starting off stronger in the third set and not to be swept, the ladies held a small lead through-out the set to claim victory, 25-22. By set four, fatigue and errors crept in as the ladies had eight kills but eight hitting errors to even the stats and fall just short of pushing a fifth set with a score of 24-26.
"This was our first game and really first chance to understand how to play next to each other," stated head coach Amanda Gauthier. "It's a process but the girls are excited to move on and take what they have learned into the next challenge!"
Freshman Katie Clarke set the stage for an exciting season, with 15 kills, eight digs and four service aces.
Freshman Madison Arrowsmith started off the season with four kills and two service aces.
Courtney Farabee grabbed eight digs while Carli Kile gave up 20 assists.
The Lady Patriots take the weekend to rest before heading to Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday, September 4. The match is set to start at 7pm.
