Women's Volleyball Stumbles in Tri-Match

LANCASTER, PA- The Valley Forge Christian College women's volleyball team suffered a tough loss to regional rivals Cairn University and Lancaster Bible College, Thursday, September 26.  The Lady Patriots were swept by both teams, 0-3.

The night started off with the Lady Patriots competing against the No. 8 Cairn University Highlanders. The Patriots endured a powerful Highlander offense, encountering a slew of spikes from every hitter. While the defense managed to keep the ball in play, offensively the ladies could not set up. Unable to transition for an effective attack, Valley Forge slipped into a three set loss.

Katie Clarke recorded five kills, seven digs and one ace.

Kimberly Cramer played outside hitter for the first time this season and notched three kills along with 13 digs.

Headed into the second match against host school Lancaster Bible College, the Lady Patriots continued to face trouble completing a setup. Continuously getting caught in transition, the Patriots could not finish off the ball or set up a block to give the defense a break. In the second set, the Patriots finally put together a string of intense offense to tie the Chargers, 20-20. Then suddenly the Patriots' bad habits came alive, playing four hitting errors in a row before finally falling, 21-25. In the third set the Chargers made the most of every Patriot weakness and error, solidifying the match, 9-25.

Kimberly Cramer recorded four kills and five digs, while Courtney Farabee notched 12 digs.

"We beat ourselves tonight," discussed Head Coach Amanda Gauthier. "Both teams were very good, but we did not play our game and repeatidly made elementary mistakes. We just didn't give ourselves a chance to compete tonight."

The Lady Patriots take the weekend to rest before hosting Cedar Crest College, Monday, September 30. The game is set to start at 7 pm!
