TAKOMA PARK, MD- The women's volleyball team broke out the brooms to complete another three-set win over Washington Adventist University, Tuesday, September 24. The Lady Patriots secured each set with a commanding lead, 25-13, 25-11 and 25-9.
A shaky start for both teams, as neither side could get on a run. The Shock trailed the Patriots by just one point into the double-digits. Finally finding their feet, the Lady Patriots went on a killing streak, led by Katie Clarke, notching six kills to push the Patriots toward the finish.
Sets two and three revealed the serving power of the Patriots with a combined effort from Madison Arrowsmith and Courtney Farabee. The two girls combined for a total of 16 aces in the two sets. The Patriots utilized their offense, moving their hitters around to catch the defense in transition and secure both sets and the match.
"I feel that we started the game out playing frantic, but we quickly recovered and played hard. Everyone stepped up to play to their potential, played as a team, and always encouraged each other and because of that we showed what Patriot volleyball was really about." stated junior outside hitter Aubrie McQuown.
Aubrie McQuown played a perfect game with six kills and zero hitting errors, combined with four digs and four aces.
Madison Arrowsmith notched nine aces along with four kills.
Courtney Farabee recorded 11 digs and four aces, while Katie Clarke tallied 10 kills, eight digs and two assists.
The Patriots stay on the road for their game matchup, with an East Region tri-match between Cairn University and Lancaster Bible College. The Patriots compete against the Highlanders at 6 pm and the Chargers at 8 pm.
