WASHINGTON,D.C.- The Valley Forge Christian College women's soccer team encountered a deja vu when they played Trinity Washington University, Monday, September 23. Last season the Patriots tied the Tigers, 1-1, in double overtime. The results from monday's game mirrored last season, as the game ended in double overtime with the score 1-1.
The Patriots went up on the board first, with a solid break-away shot from senior
Stephanie Kriegbaum. Holding the Tigers at bay, the Patriots remained in the lead going into the break. Into the second half, the Patriots played solid defense, until a last minute attempt to stop a Tiger striker led a foul and a penalty kick for the host school. Goalkeeper
Amanda McGinness barely missed the save, as the ball skirted right underneath her hands. The score was now tied, 1-1.
For the remainder of the period both teams pursued the lead, but could not obtain it. At the end of regulation play, the game went into overtime. Again, both teams could not capitalize on their shots and headed into a second overtime. At the sound of the horn, signaling time had run out, the match was over and the end results would be tie for both schools.
Stephanie Kriegbaum recorded her first career goal, taking six shots and three shots on goal.
The women return home for their next match, playing host to Washington Adventist University, Thursday, September 26. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 pm.
Go Patriots!
