Seven Seniors Honored in Playoff Victory!

PHOENIXVILLE, PA- The Valley Forge Christian College women's basketball team secured a spot in the NCCAA East Region championship game with a smooth victory over Cairn University, Monday, February 18.  The Patriots defeated the Highlanders with a final score of 60-27.

Despite being able to even the score early in the first period, the Highlanders were no match for the Patriots' fast paced offense and pressure defense.  The Patriots were able to grab a solid lead going into half-time, 33-11, and extend their advantage by 33 points by the end of game.

The Patriots had a solid rebounding game, grabbing 40 boards compared to the highlanders 28.  They were also able to convert 28 points off of the Highlanders turnovers.

The game was more than just a semifinal match-up for the Patriots, as seven seniors were honored after the game.   Amanda Reich, Amanda Compton, Morgan Godwin, Vanity Jones, and Melissa Cicerchia were recognized for their four years of dedication to the program.  Akinna Ransom who played two years and Whitney LaPointe, who joined this season, were also recognized tonight.  Another highlight that night came right before the end of the first half, when senior Amanda Reich sank a three-pointer and scored her 2,000th career point!

Amanda Reich recorded a total of 21 points, along with five rebounds, and five steals.

Morgan Godwin notched 19 points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist.

Amanda Compton earned a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.  Vanity Jones made her mark with 13 rebounds, five steals and three assists.

All together it was a memorable night for the women's basketball team!  The ladies move on to the NCCAA East Region Championship game, Wednesday, February 20.  The team travels to Lancaster Bible College to compete against the Chargers at 7pm.
